About our Centers in Kenya

Kenya is located on the coast of Eastern Africa. According to CIA World Factbook, the estimated per-capita income is $840 per year, with greater than 43 percent of the population attempting to survive on less than $1.25 per day.

Vapor’s two Kenyan centers, Kawangware and Gichagi, are located in two communities that struggle with extreme poverty. The Kawangware slum has a population of over 300,000 people living within a four square-mile area. A large portion of this population lives on less than $1 per day and has very little access to clean drinking water. Gichagi is home to over 10,000 people that battle the same harsh realities as those living in Kawangware.

At both centers, the children who participate in the leagues receive disease-prevention training, basic medical assistance and other forms of humanitarian aid. The poorest children at the centers receive their education and support through Hasmin’s Friends, Vapor’s child sponsorship program.

Trip Information

Trip participants are responsible for purchasing their Kenyan visa and arranging transportation to Vapor’s headquarters and must arrive before trip training begins. Once at headquarters, in Sylacauga, AL, all other required expenses (except airport meals and snacks) are covered. Vapor trips begin the trip with cross-cultural training, briefing, orientation, and team-building activities before flying to Kenya the following day.

In Kenya, you will see firsthand the realities of the Third World and will be able to take part in a relevant and effective solution as you participate in the vision of Vapor. You will powerfully connect with two different communities in Kenya and experience life there in unforgettable ways.
